In Brazil it has been prohibited since 2019 to purchase potassium hydroxide without having a license from Federal Police, because KOH can be used in the refining of cocaine.
Therefore, it was practically impossible to make potassium saponified liquid soap. Prior to this ordinance, it was possible to buy small amounts of KOH, 2 kg/month, enough for the scale of artisanal soap.
One option for making liquid soap would be to use natural surfactants such as sodium coco sulfate and alkyl polyglucosides but the cost of these ingredients is very high.
The idea was to look for alternatives to make saponified liquid soap, replacing potassium hydroxide with sodium hydroxide. From this development came the process that was called JapuX - a process that uses caustic soda to produce a liquid soap of excellent quality, superior to conventional caustic potash, transparent, viscous and very easy and quick to produce.
